On January 16, a concert based on the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will take place in the Northern Capital. According to the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Academic Symphony Orchestra will perform under the baton of Arkady Steinluht.

The audience will hear two works of the classic. One of them is Symphony No. 25, the so-called “Small” in G minor, one of the composer’s two symphonies in this key.

“Mozart wrote it upon his return from a tour in Italy, at that time he was 17 years old. The dramatic nature of the work is associated with the Sturm und Drang movement or the Italian opera experience of the composer,” the organizers reminded.

Also, Petersburgers and guests of the city will hear the Requiem for soloists, choir and orchestra. The funeral mass was overgrown with riddles. Versions are expressed about Mozart’s premonition of his own death, about the mystical “black man” who commissioned the work.

“In the same “Amadeus” by Foreman there is a fictional scene in which Mozart, on his deathbed, dictates the Requiem to his rival Salieri. But in fact, the composer gathered fellow musicians at his place to go through the already written fragments and give instructions to the student Franz Xaver Süssmeier to complete the composition, ”the Philharmonic recalled.

Margarita Ivanova (soprano), a soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre, laureate of international competitions, as well as Daria Telyatnikova (mezzo-soprano), Artem Melikhov (tenor), Pyotr Migunov (bass) and the St. Petersburg Chamber Choir will join the orchestra.

Tickets can be purchased on the official website of the Philharmonic. An online broadcast is planned.
