Seven houses destroyed and another two partially damaged were the balance of two structural fires registered in two rural areas of the province of Esmeraldas.

The first fire occurred in the neighborhood known as the Twin Towers, in the Borbón rural parish, north of the province of Esmeraldas. The incident was recorded around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday the 12th.

Six houses of mixed construction and wood were consumed by fire and another two resulted in damage to their structures.

Luis Arroyo and Leonardo Cevallos, residents of the houses, reported that the flames appeared in a neighbor’s house and spread rapidly. “Everything was so fast that there was no time to evacuate belongings or clothing. We only managed to help our families,” said one of the victims.

Israel Torres, parish commander of the Fire Department, indicated that the only fire engine they have was damaged during Wednesday’s emergency.

They demand support from the Municipality of Eloy Alfaro and decentralized autonomous governments (GAD) to equip the centrals of the red coat of Borbón, La Tola and Limones.
