Roskomnadzor demanded to block 14 videos of the Mari Speak satirical YouTube channel run by Nizhny Novgorod blogger and singer Maria Chistyakova.

As Anastasia Burakova, the legal representative of the blogger, reported on Telegram, in September, mass complaints from three labels hit the channel. Google took the position of a blogger, since the parody falls under the concept of fair use, the video was unblocked and the channel was saved.

“Now the labels have decided to stifle political satire through Roskomnadzor,” the lawyer noted. She drew attention to the fact that it is possible to require Google to remove a video under the pretext of copyright infringement only on the basis of a judicial act that has entered into force (Article 15.2 of the Federal Law “On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection”), however, Chistyakova is not aware of judicial acts in relation to its content. The videos were also not included in the register of prohibited videos. However, as of today, 14 videos from the channel are blocked for users from Russia.

Lawyers supporting Marie Speak challenged the Google block by sending a counter-notice justifying the position.
