The State Department called the condition under which sanctions against Russia will not have to be imposed

There will be no need to impose sanctions if Russia chooses the diplomatic way of resolving the situation with Ukraine. This, according to RBC, said the representative of the US Department of State Ned Price.

“We have clearly indicated what the alternative will be. The alternative that we and our NATO partners talked about is a tough response with unprecedented consequences for the Russian economy. We hope that this (alternative) will remain hypothetical, ”he said.

Earlier, a draft of a new package of US Senate sanctions against the state debt of Russia, the banking sector and some officials was published. The restrictions included President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov, as well as “commanders of various branches of the armed forces, including the Air Force and the Navy … In addition, it was proposed to impose sanctions against at least three organizations from the list: Sberbank, VTB, Gazprombank, VEB, RDIF, MKB, Alfa-Bank, Rosselkhozbank, Otkritie, Promsvyazbank, Sovcombank, Transcapitalbank.

The package of sanctions includes blocking and prohibiting any transactions with property or in the interests of persons under sanctions. They will also be banned from entering the United States, and those on the list will not be able to issue visas or other entry documents. Previously issued travel authorization documents will be canceled.

The project gives the right to impose sanctions on financial means of exchange of messages, such as SWIFT, requires reporting on measures to stop the provision of services to banks under sanctions, and prohibits transactions with the primary and secondary public debt of Russia. The project also involves sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and its contractors and operators.

The restrictions, as conceived by the senators, should be introduced by the US President in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the threat of new anti-Russian sanctions is a kind of artillery preparation before consultations on security guarantees.
