British Prince Andrew ordered to stand trial for sexual assault

A New York court has refused to dismiss a civil suit against the son of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Andrew, BBC News reports. He is now set to stand trial in the United States on charges of sexual assault against Virginia Jufre.

The case can be considered in September this year.

We will remind, the American Virginia Jufre accuses the Duke of York of the fact that he entered into forced sexual intercourse with her several times when she was 17 years old. The 61-year-old Duke of York has consistently denied the allegations, Buckingham Palace declined to comment.

At the same time, Prince Andrew’s lawyers demanded to reject Giuffre’s complaint on the basis of an agreement she signed in 2009 with American businessman Jeffrey Epstein, according to which she refused to prosecute Epstein and his acquaintances, including Prince Andrew, for monetary compensation. However, a New York judge ruled that the case could be continued.
