The European Union called the missile launches in the DPRK a threat to international security

The EU authorities condemn the DPRK missile launches on January 5 and 11 and consider them a threat to international security. This statement was made by an official representative of the European External Action Service (EMU).

As stated in the EMU communiqué, “the DPRK’s pursuit of illegal weapons systems runs counter to international efforts to resume dialogue and participate in efforts to assist its people.”

The European Union called on North Korea to fulfill its obligations under UN Security Council resolutions and refrain from actions that “undermine the possibility of diplomacy and dialogue”, as well as return to the issues of denuclearization and the abandonment of weapons of mass destruction, ballistic missiles and existing nuclear programs.

Also, the EMU statement notes that as long as the DPRK continues to refuse to fulfill its obligations to the UN, the European Union will continue to “strictly apply sanctions” and urge the international community to do the same.

We will remind, on the eve it became known about the launch of a projectile – presumably a ballistic missile – from the DPRK in the direction of the Sea of Japan.
