On the night of this Tuesday, the 11th, the Cuenca Emergency Operations Committee (COE) made several decisions in relation to the restriction of capacity, to prevent COVID-19 infections and its variants from continuing to rise in the capital of Azuaya.

To adopt the measures, the cantonal COE considered the data provided by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP). In the last two weeks, six people have died from COVID-19.

The Health portfolio reported that 87.2% of the population was vaccinated with the two doses of the coronavirus vaccine, while 27.69% have received the third dose.

Julio Molina, director of the Municipal Health Council, indicated that in the Intensive Care Units (ICU) of clinics and hospitals in the city, 23 of the 44 available beds are occupied. That is, 53%.

The official added that in the intermediate care unit there are 34 patients, who receive oxygen but are not intubated.

After receiving the health report, the authorities decided to restrict to 50% the capacity in tourist sites that include aspects such as the sale of food and beverages, transportation, events, congresses and conventions.

In centers of religious cults and community houses in neighborhoods or parishes, the capacity will be a maximum of 50% of their total capacity.

Mayor Pedro Palacios stated that the suspension of public events of mass attendance is maintained.

Regarding the public transport service such as buses and the Tram, the COE ordered users to carry their vaccination card before possible random controls.

However, Palacios explained that if the card is not presented, the passenger will not be removed from the transport unit, but will be asked to complete their vaccination schedule.

Likewise, other measures provided for in a municipal ordinance were ratified, such as the vehicle restriction between 02:00 and 05:00 from Monday to Sunday. Also that physical training centers and recreational cultural activities operate at 60% of maximum capacity.

The modification of these restrictions, concluded the mayor, will depend on the evolution of the virus in the population. (I)
