The Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE) estimated that from the fourth quarter of this year the employment figures in the country would regain their pre-ndemic level.
“Employment is expected to return to its precovid levels from the fourth quarter of 2022. In other words, by the end of this year we expect to have the same level that we had exactly before the pandemic. This is with a moderate scenario, “said Camilo León, Deputy Minister of Employment Promotion, before the Labor Commission of Congress.
He added that the occupied PEA; In other words, the population that is actively seeking employment and is over 14 years old, this year would reach 16.8 million people on average. Thus, it is rising to prepandemic levels, but it has not yet reached the situation of the third quarter of 2019, where there were 17.1 million people.
On the other hand, the official explained that the informal employment situation is similar to that of 10 years ago, taking into account that it would be at a level of around 78.2% of workers, equivalent to 12 million people.
“We have a situation of informality similar to that of 10 years ago. The informality situation has worsened for certain people and groups of the population, such as women, young people and the elderly, who have rates of 77, 2%, 82% and 86% respectively, which are higher than the national average of 75.3% ”, he pointed out.
