Sergei Mironov asked the Prosecutor General’s Office to check the legality of the privatization of state-owned enterprises in the 90s

After the story with the Solikamsk magnesium plant, the legality of the privatization of which was questioned in the country’s main oversight department, the chairman of the Fair Russia – For the Truth party, head of the party faction in the State Duma, Sergei Mironov, sent a letter to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov with a request to check the legality of the privatization of all state enterprises, which took place in 1992-1996.

According to Mironov, as it became known from the media, on October 1, 2021, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation filed a lawsuit against the shareholders of Solikamsk Magnesium Plant OJSC and demanded that the shares of the above-named plant be returned to the ownership of the Russian Federation. “The motivation is as follows: in 1992-1996, the shares of the plant transformed from a state-owned enterprise belonging to federal property were alienated, in violation of the legislation in force during the privatization period,” Mironov said.

According to the chairman of the party, it is about the fact that the Solikamsk magnesium plant is engaged in the processing of rare earth and radioactive elements, and, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the permission for privatization should have been given by the government of the country, and not by the regional authorities. Mironov believes that cases of illegal privatization of other enterprises in the country are not excluded.

“Taking into account the economic importance of the issue being raised, I ask you to consider the possibility of giving instructions to carry out an inspection of all enterprises that were previously federal property, the owners of which carried out the privatization of property in the period 1992-1996,” says Mironov’s letter to the Prosecutor General.
