“This studio work fuses different musical genres, such as ‘jazz’ and ‘funk’, with several progressive passages”.
There is no better way to start a year than by sharing new music. This is the case of the Ecuadorian saxophonist Johan Vallejo (@ 0johanvallejo4), who after having been part of other groups, such as Radioactive Pichirilo and Swing Original Monks, publishes his first EP as a soloist, titled Tiziromboti and composed of three instrumental songs that, for around fourteen minutes, take the work of an exciting and risky soundtrack.
Available on digital distribution platforms since the beginning of 2022, this studio work merges different musical genres, such as jazz and the funk, with several progressive passages that manage to be perceived as an excellent mass improvisation.
The musicians who accompanied Vallejo and his saxophone were Pablo Gutiérrez (@ pablo.egutierrez) on trumpet, Johnny Morán (@johnny_morn) on guitar, Daniel Pacheco (@daniel_pachecov) on electric piano, Sergio Espinosa Maturana (@sergioespinosamaturana) on bass and Carlos Sánchez (@carlossanchezmusic) on drums . This band was in charge of adding solidity and sophistication to the impeccable sound design of a production that had the recording and mixing of the Quito producer known as Entrañas (@entranas_) and the mastering of Óscar Bahamonde. In turn, the artwork for the enigmatic cover was designed by illustrator Jennifer Freire (@jafreco).
I consider listening to this EP undoubtedly represents an adventure of enveloping sounds and melodies that do not need a voice to express themselves and empathize with the listener; Beyond the virtuosity of its interpreters, the authenticity and sincerity can be noticed as its songs unfold. The music manages to generate different scenarios, something that was probably its mission. Synaesthetic, Enclosing Y T I Z I R O M B O T I They are tracing a path that, despite being built solely by instruments, is clearly understood in its message. Of course, this will be subject to personal interpretation.
Let more new music keep coming. May artists continue to be brave and dare to show their work to anyone who is in constant search of creative outbursts.
