CNT suspends coercive processes until February 28

The National Telecommunications Corporation (CNT) ordered the suspension of the coercive processes until next Monday, February 28.

This measure was adopted in a resolution approved on January 9 in order to resolve “problems inherited from previous administrations,” the entity said in a statement.

During the current and next month, personnel from the state company will review each process reported for allegedly irregular charges.

In addition, the entity will enable the WhatsApp line 0962-316-800 to receive all complaints related to coercive processes and take the corresponding actions. The public company detailed that as of Tuesday, March 1, 2022, all contracts for the provision of services will be digital, “with the aim of avoiding eventual falsifications and identity theft”.

Users claim that CNT collects debts from them without having contracted the service

In recent days, several citizens disclosed data due to problems of coercive lawsuits. Among them, a user, Vanessa Poggo, a Guayaquil resident, stated that they wanted to charge her $ 394 in late payment interest for an alleged fixed line that appears to have been contracted in April 2003 at an address where she never enabled it. “At that age I was a student who had no income,” she explained before being contacted by the institution to review her case.

Last November, CNT had a receivable portfolio of around 42 million dollars and registered around 214,000 users with outstanding assets in Guayaquil, a figure that represented 25% of its clients in the city. In order to collect these amounts, from the 20th of that month, cuts are applied to those who have arrears in fixed telephone and internet bills since July 14, 2021.
