According to the Government, in the coming days, the omicron variant, which is considered more contagious, will prevail.
The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) considers that the epidemiological situation due to the COVID-19 it will be review this week and next.
“We’re going to have a increase in cases, of course, we still have in the country the delta variant which is the one that gives us the most complications, gives us more hospitalizations, serious cases and cases of ICU (intensive care). Slowly, this week, the omicron will be displacing the delta, for next week we hope that there will be no delta in the country … “, said the Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, at a press conference, this Monday.
He added that they suspect that the medical records of those in intensive care correspond to the delta variant.
Regarding the deaths in excess, indicated that they remain at 13% and the age group that dies the most corresponds to the elderly.
The provinces most affected in terms of mortality are Guayas, Pichincha, Azuay, Manabí and El Oro.

From the positivity in the tests, Garzón indicated that the antigen test is 53 % (about 15,000 tests) and CRP is 38% (of about 20,000 tests).
That, he explained, indicates that Ecuador is in a pandemic outbreak.
José Ruales, Vice Minister of Governance and Health Surveillance of the MSP, indicated that from December 14 of 2021, when the first case of the omicron was detected, a very high magnification that is practically reaching the levels of daily cases similar to those that were in a peak that was registered in the last weeks of May of last year when there was a greater incidence.
Ruales added that, in the last week, there are about 2,000 cases per day. He said that Guayas exceeded 1,017 daily cases the previous week and Pichincha, 500.
The relaxation of the population in the midst of a contagious omicron is linked to the accelerated increase in COVID-19 cases in Ecuador
