If the coronavirus attacks the heart, it can lead to serious consequences, said cardiologist Zaurbek Shugushev.
According to him, the coronavirus can have a “direct damaging effect” on the heart muscle, RIA Novosti reports. At the same time, the severe consequences of the infection are detected in postcoid syndrome, and the patient is in the same condition as after an extensive heart attack. In this case, his average life expectancy may not exceed five years, the specialist noted.
The reason for this is heart failure due to the transferred myocarditis caused by the coronavirus. “According to the prognosis, heart failure is associated with approximately lung cancer, that is, people with these diagnoses live the same number of years from the detection of symptoms to death, ”explained Shugushev.
At the same time, according to him, at present, scientists do not know what factors lead to heart failure in postcoid syndrome, however, it has been established that the degree of risk does not depend on the patient’s age: damage to the heart muscle is detected in patients both young and old.
