Roskosmos reported that the likelihood of a collision of the asteroid Apophis with the Earth, which can release destructive energy, is negligible

Roscosmos assessed the risk of a collision of the asteroid Apophis with the Earth, which may occur in April 2095, as extremely low and amounting to only 0.02%. This forecast was made possible by measurements made by the Institute of Applied Mathematics, reports Roscosmos in its Telegram channel.

In general, according to the department, the Institute received and transmitted to Roscosmos 5797 measurements on 106 asteroids and 31 comets.

Earlier, a number of Russian media reported about a dangerous approach to the Earth asteroid “Apophis”, which will fly up to our planet at a distance of the orbits of geostationary satellites. Citing data from the All-Russian Research Institute for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations (VNII GOChS) of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the journalists reported that the energy released when Apophis collides with the Earth will amount to 1,717 megatons – 30 times more energy released during the explosion of the world’s most powerful Soviet thermonuclear bomb in 1961.
