President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanks the US senators who decided to vote on another sanctions bill against Nord Stream 2. He wrote about this in his Twitter, adding that Ukraine is asking “all of its friends” to stop the Russian export gas pipeline, which has already been built but has not yet been certified.
thanks @SenSchumer and @SenTedCruz for agreeing to put to a vote the stop of the Russian “Nord Stream – 2”. ???????? asks all his friends in the US Senate to support the European Energy Security Act S.3436: https://t.co/rnnYfGDagr

We are talking about the law “On the protection of the energy security of Europe S.3436”, the vote on which should take place before January 14. Unlike other sanctions initiatives, this bill does not suggest waiting for Russia’s hypothetical “invasion” of Ukraine or intervention in American politics. If passed by both houses of Congress and approved by President Joe Biden, it will go into effect automatically 15 days after approval.
The bill’s sponsors are hoping to secure the support of 60 senators to get the bill passed by the Senate and put to a vote in the House of Representatives. The newspaper Politico adheres to a different position, reporting with reference to its own sources that the hopes of Republican senators who are trying to “freeze” Nord Stream 2 as soon as possible may not come true.
