NBC: US authorities ready to discuss troop reduction in Eastern Europe with Russia

The US administration admits the likelihood of discussing the issue of reducing the number of American troops in the Baltics and Poland during negotiations with the Russian Federation, NBC reports citing one of the administration officials and two ex-secret service officers aware of the preparations for the negotiations.

According to NBC sources, President Biden’s administration is considering a list of possible topics for discussion. However, the sources noted that any revision of the US military presence in Europe will be made only on condition of “equivalent retaliatory steps” from Russia. At the same time, the withdrawal of Russian troops from the borders with Ukraine will not be enough.

Sources also said that the talks could raise questions about reducing the scale of military exercises on both sides, timely notification of troop movements and the deployment of Iskander missiles with missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads on the territory of the Kaliningrad region.
