The Pachakutik Movement will evaluate the behavior and voting of its bench assembly members

The meeting is called for Monday, January 10, starting at 4:00 p.m., at the headquarters of the movement in Quito

The Pachakutik movement bench is preparing for next Monday a workshop to evaluate the behavior of its legislators at the time of registering their votes in the plenary session of the National Assembly, which has generated division of the bloc into two sectors.

The call for the meeting was made by Marlon Santi Gualinga, national coordinator of the Pachakutik movement, in which he indicates that an evaluation of the first seven months of legislative management will be carried out, as well as the orientation of the political guidelines for the year 2022.

In the first fortnight of last December, the division of that political store that operates in Parliament was made public and even the president of the Assembly, Guadalupe Llori, as a member of Pachakutik questioned the leader of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie ), Leonidas Iza, of trying to divide the bench.

The call for the Pachakutik 2022 evaluation and planning workshop will serve as a tool for the planned agenda. The meeting will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022, at 4:00 p.m., at the headquarters of the Pachakutik movement in Quito, says the official letter that is dated January 5.

Darwin Pereira, who is part of a group of Pachakutik assembly members who questions Rafael Lucero’s coordination, said that they called for the movement’s meeting to evaluate the voting behavior of some legislators from the bench away from the movement’s principles.

Pereira, who is also the movement’s general secretary, affirmed that some Pachakutik assembly members chose to vote attached to the government of Guillermo Lasso, and that the group of nine legislators who declared in absentia with the coordination of the caucus had to go out to clarify Public opinion.

Pereira recalled that there were legislators who distanced themselves from the thesis of the movement and abstained in the motion to file the tax reform, whose Executive project was published in the Official Registry after an alleged pact between ex-president Rafael Correa and the current president. , Guillermo Lasso.

Likewise, that same group of assembly members, on the subject of the report presented by the Constitutional Guarantees commission, chaired by Fernando Cabascango of the Pachakutik bloc, on the so-called Pandora Papers, voted against, even after the first article of the recommendations was eliminated. on the initiation of a lawsuit against Guillermo Lasso, for alleged links with companies in tax havens.

All these actions must be evaluated in the movement’s session on Monday, although Pereira rejected that the assembly members leave the bench, but they do want to know if the movement and its leadership have an agreement with the Government to lead the bloc to vote in this way.

The current coordinator of the Pachakutik bench, Rafael Lucero, considered that the internal unity problems of the bloc will be overcome next June when the movement enters a voting process for the new leadership.

Lucero said that the meeting will first evaluate the unity of the block, then the activities registered by each of the assembly members in plenary session will be evaluated, such as the presentation of projects and observations presented.

The Chimborazo assemblyman affirmed that as long as there are political aspirations or interests to lead the Pachakutik movement as of May 2022, there will be no unity on the bench. That there will be bills that will make it possible to unify the vote and others in which there will hardly be an organic position.

As long as there is internal interest in the change of Pachakutik’s leadership scheduled for next May or June, there will be these antagonistic positions at the legislative level, Rafael Lucero insisted.

The national assemblyman Ricardo Vanegas reiterated that in Pachakutik there are assemblymen who comply with the decisions that are adopted by the National Political Council and by the bench, that is, they comply organically with what is available. But there are also other assemblymen who pretend to have an agenda of their own, and they have to sit down and explain to the council.

He considered that the nine legislators who are outside the provisions of the Political Council of the movement finally have the intentions of leaving the bench and creating another bloc, because they are Pachakutik and have a perhaps different vision. “It is not true that we are fought or distant, we have differences,” Vanegas stressed.
