In Saraguro the feast of the Magi took place with traditional religious and cultural activities. Characters such as wikis, the sarawis, the bear, the lion, the tiger, the ajas, the kari sarawi, the jíbaros, the ushcos and others stood out in this event.

With this activity the celebration of Cápac Raymi concluded, which began with Christmas.

“This is a syncretism between the Catholic religion and all the cultural heritage that the Saraguro people have, which is based within their spirituality and within all their protocols that we maintain within our communities,” said Darwin Japan, one of the organizers.

The Three Kings festival is led by the Marcantaitas and Marcamamas, godparents of the festival, who carried the image of the Child Jesus in their arms in a procession through the main streets of this Loja canton.

“In this case, with the Marcantaita, with our guides, with the teacher and with all the buses that have come to be in the center of the city to develop the Catholic ceremony. Then the procession and finally return to the Marcantaita’s house, where other activities will take place, to share a community meal, with food prepared by several families, who give their collaboration to enjoy this festivity, ”said Japan.
