Of the 35 ICU beds in Manabí for COVID cases, 31 are occupied

Portoviejo IESS Hospital set up an area to care for patients with symptoms associated with COVID-19.

Despite the increase in COVID-19 infections, in Manabí there is still space in the hospitalization area of ​​these patients, but the number of beds is reduced in areas of intensive care units (ICU), in case affected users have a complex clinical picture.

In Manabí, until this Thursday, January 6, of the 84 beds that zonal coordination 4 of the Ministry of Public Health has enabled, at the moment 35 are occupied (less than 45% occupancy).

While, of the 35 ICU beds, 31 are occupied by patients affected by COVID-19. Those four available beds could be filled at any time.

There is an increase in infections and isolates of COVID-19 in ICU areas of Manabí and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas

The increase in cases of this pandemic has generated that, since December 30, the general hospital of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) in Portoviejo enables the Physical Rehabilitation area for contingency and care for symptomatic patients with COVID-19.

This area has thirteen beds, of which four were destined for intermediate care, where specialized personnel were also referred, from intensivists to pulmonologists.

From December 31 to January 4, this hospital reported the care of 285 respiratory symptomatic patients; Until that date, seven patients were hospitalized for COVID-19, according to Andy Mendoza, medical director of this IESS health home. (I)
