In recent years at least 17 seaport workers have been killed.
Cristian Fernando Llerena Nicola, 28, was killed on the road to Daule at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, when he was riding a motorcycle with his father.
He had just picked him up at the Litoral Penitentiary, since the deceased today worked for the National Service for the Deprived of Liberty (SNAI). He was a hearing coordinator and was riding behind his father when he was shot.
The murderers, who were also on a motorcycle, caught up with him when Llerena’s father stopped at a traffic light in the California Business Park sector.
They shot him in the back. He had eight bullet wounds, explained Colonel Fabricio Silva, chief of the Pascuales District, who said that the victim’s father was miraculously saved.
Cristian Llerena had no criminal record.
The police officer mentioned that 9 ballistic signs were raised at the scene and that one of the criminals was arrested, because in uniforms who were patrolling ahead of the crime scene, they saw the hit men flee and a chase began.
Silva said that on the way the hit men had thrown an object, which they presume would be a firearm. Later, the uniformed men managed to arrest one of the hit men.
The apprehended, 31 years old, registers five arrests for robbery, illicit association, possession of drugs and weapons.
After searching his records, it was also determined that he was held in the Turi prison, in Cuenca, and that he would be part of a criminal group.
On the suspect’s cell phone, investigators found photos of motorcycles and firearms, even videos of using weapons.
An hour before the Llerena crime, in the south of Guayaquil another violent death occurred on 25 de Julio Avenue, a few meters from the Maritime Port.
The victim is Édison Escobar Sevilla, 45, an employee of that port terminal who was leaving the workplace when he was accosted by some men in a Kia Sportage who shot him while driving his car.
The police indicated that Escobar did not register a record and that the hitmen shot him at least ten times.
Escobar’s body was transferred to the Guayaquil morgue. On the morning of this Thursday, his relatives were doing paperwork to remove the body.
In addition to these crimes, an assassination attempt was also recorded in the suburb, at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
A woman was shot outside her home. The hit men were in a lead Spark car. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is treated by doctors.
In Durán, that same night skeletons were discovered in the road ear that connects the Duran-Boliche road with the Durán-Yaguachi road.
According to the Police, the human skeleton was on some plastics and near there other pieces (bones) were not yet determined.
The remains were transferred to the Guayaquil morgue for analysis. (I)
