Kazakhstan has limited fuel prices and utility tariffs

The government of Kazakhstan has introduced for six months the maximum prices for liquefied gas and gasoline, as well as a moratorium on the increase in utility tariffs. This is reported in a resolution on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers.

“There have been established price caps for 180 days for retail sales of liquefied petroleum gas for refueling vehicles at gas stations in Kazakhstan,” the statement says.

In particular, the price of such fuel, depending on the region, will be from 50 tenge (11 cents) to 75 tenge (17 cents) per liter. The full transition to the sale of liquefied petroleum gas through the electronic trading platform has been postponed for one year.

“Introduced a temporary – for 180 days – state price regulation for the sale of gasoline and diesel fuel”, – is specified in the text.

Its price will depend on the brand and region of sale and will range from 89 tenge (22 cents) to 215 tenge (49 cents) per liter, for diesel fuel – from 230 tenge (53 cents) to 260 tenge (60 cents) per liter.

The government also introduced a 180-day moratorium on raising utility rates, and banned the export of large and small livestock, as well as vegetables for six months to stabilize prices.

Protests in Kazakhstan began after the New Year over the rise in the price of liquefied gas. Clashes began. 13 security officials were killed, more than a thousand people were injured. Police in the city of Almaty announced the elimination of “dozens” of protesters who attacked administrative buildings.

The government resigned, while the CSTO Collective Security Council decided to send a collective peacekeeping force to Kazakhstan at the request of the president of the republic. Paratroopers are being transferred there from Russia. According to the latest data, Kazakhstan has suspended the entry of foreigners into the country.
