Kyrgyzstan may send troops to Kazakhstan despite protests from citizens

The government of Kyrgyzstan asks to treat with understanding the possibility of sending the Kyrgyz military to Kazakhstan as part of the CSTO peacekeeping contingent. In a statement released by the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, it is noted that the call for help from President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev cannot be rejected.

It is argued that Bishkek, until the last moment, hoped for the ability of “the people and the leadership of Kazakhstan to independently and without any outside interference to solve all the issues facing them in accordance with their own national interests.” However, in the end, it was decided to initiate before the Jogorku Kenesh (parliament) the issue of sending a limited contingent of armed forces to Kazakhstan with a mandate to participate in the CSTO peacekeeping operation.

Today, the Kyrgyz parliament was unable to resolve this issue due to the lack of a quorum, and about 50 people gathered near the Jogorku Kenesh building, protesting against the dispatch of a contingent of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces to Kazakhstan.

Earlier, the press secretary of the President of Kyrgyzstan said that the Kyrgyz military in Kazakhstan will be engaged in the protection of strategic facilities, but not suppressing protests.
