“The people of Kazakhstan have the right to decide their own future”: Russians spoke out against sending peacekeepers

A petition has appeared on the Change.org website against the dispatch of collective peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan.

“We, the citizens of Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan itself, appeal to the leaderships of our countries with a demand to deny the request of Mr. Tokayev and prevent the entry of our troops into the territory of Kazakhstan to suppress the protests of Kazakhstani citizens,” the text says.

The authors of the petition support their opinion by the fact that Kazakhstan supposedly should resolve its internal issues without outside interference, and the introduction of troops will be nothing more than an encroachment on the national sovereignty of Kazakhstan and an act of foreign invasion.

“The people of Kazakhstan have the right to decide their own future. And we are confident that this future will be based on the principles of freedom, democracy and human rights, ”the petition says.

On the eve, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, requested assistance from the CSTO because of the protests that began in the country after the New Year. The protesters demanded a reduction in the price of liquefied gas. The government of Kazakhstan has resigned. A state of emergency is in force throughout the country.

The CSTO Collective Security Council decided to send collective peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan. The CSTO includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. Russia, as part of the operation, is transferring paratroopers.
