The collective peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) have been sent to Kazakhstan. This was reported by TASS with reference to information from the CSTO secretariat.
“In accordance with the decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council, adopted on January 6, 2022, the Collective Peacekeeping Forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization were sent to the Republic of Kazakhstan for a limited time to stabilize and normalize the situation,” the message says.
Aerospace Forces aircraft are deploying airborne units to Kazakhstan.
According to the CSTO, advanced units from the Russian contingent have already begun to fulfill their assigned tasks.
The peacekeeping contingent sent to Kazakhstan included units of the armed forces of Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Protests in Kazakhstan began after the New Year over the rise in the price of liquefied gas. Clashes began with the police, during which eight police officers and military personnel of the National Guard were killed, 317 were injured. Police in the city of Almaty announced the elimination of “dozens” of protesters who attacked administrative buildings. The government resigned, while the CSTO Collective Security Council decided to send a collective peacekeeping force to Kazakhstan at the request of the president of the republic.
