Schlossberg: Events in Kazakhstan may acquire the character of a war between the Kazakhs and the interventionists

The appeal of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev to the members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) with a request for support in resolving the internal political crisis threatens to aggravate it, said politician Lev Shlosberg.

“Tokayev has lost confidence in his security officials and he asks for the introduction of foreign troops, primarily Russia. The CSTO Secretariat is located in Moscow. Tokayev saw in the events on the streets a threat to the “independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty” of Kazakhstan. Total: The Russian Armed Forces will enter Kazakhstan within the framework of the CSTO, if Putin agrees. Most likely, he has already given it, ”predicts Schlosberg.

He recalled that the current members of the CSTO are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan.

“Events in Kazakhstan may acquire the character of a war between the Kazakhs and the interventionists. It is very dangerous, ”the politician warned.

On Wednesday evening, Tokayev turned to the CSTO for help because of the unrest in the country. Tokayev called the appeal to the CSTO members appropriate and timely.

The State Duma said that Russia is obliged to respond to the appeal of the President of Kazakhstan. At the same time, according to the chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Leonid Kalashnikov, one should approach the issue carefully.
