Of the 42 violent deaths that were counted at the national level until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 16 cases have been registered in the province of Guayas. It is the most violent territory, where in the space of a few hours three men were shot on Tuesday night and two more on Wednesday afternoon.

The first victim was Ángel Vidal Santillán, who died in Balzar at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday when men on a motorcycle shot him. He was intercepted in the ring of the canton when he was going to Guayaquil in his car. Ángel Vidal was a native of El Empalme and was known as Marimba.

After the attack, the vehicle that the individual was driving was left on the side of the road.

Criminalistics police officers arrived at the site and collected information that will allow the initiation of investigations.

An hour later in El Triunfo, another Guayas canton, Carlos Enrique Herrera was also shot by unknown subjects.

At 11:00 pm, in Guasmo, south of Guayaquil, a third man was shot. This is Jordan Ulises P., 28, who was taken to the Guasmo hospital by his father after being injured outside their home.

Until the afternoon of this Wednesday, Jordan P. was in critical condition, as he received several gunshot wounds.

Already on the afternoon of this Wednesday there were two violent deaths: one in the south and the other in the north of Guayaquil. At 4:30 p.m. the driver of a gray car was shot on 25 de Julio Avenue, a few meters from the Maritime Port. At least 10 bullet holes were evident in the car.

At 5:45 p.m. another man was shot on the road to Daule in the California Business Park sector. The victim would be a motorcyclist and, according to witnesses, was shot from another motorcycle. He died on the street and Forensic Medicine lifted the body.

The Police preliminarily reported that a man was detained. The subject was captured when he was fleeing on a motorcycle.

That same afternoon, at 29 y Rosendo Avilés, in the suburb, another person was injured in the middle of a robbery. The victim, who was shot in the leg, is a guard at a medical home. He said that when he tried to flee from two criminals on a motorcycle, they shot him.

A similar case occurred in the northwest of Guayaquil, also on Wednesday afternoon. In the coop. Flor del Norte, a young man was shot in the left foot and his partner hit him in the head while men on a motorcycle stole $ 300 from him.

The other provinces with a high number of murders are Los Ríos, with seven violent deaths; Manabí, who already has five cases; and El Oro, with four murders, two of which occurred in the border area of Huaquillas.

Last year, to date, only 21 cases had been registered, so these 19 extra cases represent a concern for the National Police.

For this reason, the general commander of the Police, Tannya Varela, announced that in the next few days 200 more police officers will be sent to Guayaquil more exclusively to investigate the crimes and thus not remain in impunity. At least 85% of the murders registered in this city are due to a fight for territory for the sale of substances.

But General Varela also indicated that she hopes that the assembly members will reform the laws, such as the Progressive Use of Force or Intelligence, which would allow the uniformed men to act more safely. (I)
