Four dead after vehicle and trailer collision on the Buena Fe-Santo Domingo highway

A spectacular accident was registered this morning on the E25 road, on the Buena Fe-Patricia Pilar-Santo Domingo section. This new road tragedy caused the death of four people.

Around 07:05 today, a light car and a trailer hit head-on at the height of the rural parish Patricia Pilar. The automobiles were left on the road and on the side of the road, respectively, with severe damage. At the scene, various parts of the light rail were scattered.

After the event, teams of Firefighters, the Ministry of Health, the National Police and the Transit Commission of Ecuador came to the area to attend to those affected.

There, the rescue teams verified the death of four occupants of the light vehicle.

According to the version of agents of the Ecuadorian Transit Commission (CTE), the car, with Pichincha license plates, circulated with five passengers in the Santo Domingo-Buena Fe direction, while the Orellana license plate trailer was driven in the opposite direction.

The deceased were transferred to the Quevedo morgue. They were identified as María Belén Larrea Chávez, Emma Alicia Lita Vinueza, Víctor Vicente Maldonado Morales and Luis Alejandro Dávila Valenzuela.

While citizen Jennifer Yajaira Zapata Escobar, the only survivor of the occupants of the car, was taken to a health home.

So far, agents from the Traffic Accident Investigation Office (OIAT), of the CTE, are investigating the causes that would have originated the accident. What caused it is still unknown, as well as the responsibilities of the drivers involved in the emergency.

Buena Fe firefighters collaborated in the extraction of the bodies of the victims who were trapped between the twisted irons of the light car. While the trailer, as a result of the impact, overturned and ended up in a box.

CTE agents controlled the circulation of vehicles on this road, which could not avoid congestion, due to the partial closure that they had to carry out during the rescue tasks of the victims that lasted about three hours.

This traffic accident is added to the list of accidents that have been registered on this section of the road. In that area, there is still waiting for the fulfillment of promises from government authorities for the expansion to four lanes, but so far it has not been fulfilled.

Residents of the area and transporters in general are requesting the extension of this highway, which currently has only two lanes, in order to avoid more lives lost due to the accidents.

For now, the authorities do not know the whereabouts of the driver of the trailer. (I)
