The area, according to residents, is a point of constant traffic accidents due to the high speed with which vehicles circulate.

Five injured are the preliminary result of a traffic accident that occurred this Tuesday morning at kilometer 22 of the Cuenca-Girón-Pasaje highway, which connects Azuay and El Oro.
The place where the accident occurred is known as Las Rosas, in the rural parish of Victoria del Portete, south of Cuenca.
The cars involved are a white Grand Vitara, with Azuay plates, and a Toyota Ford Runner, with a Guayas identification.
Luis Alvarado, lieutenant of the Ecuadorian Transit Commission (CTE), said that according to the residents’ version, the Toyota was traveling towards Cuenca and the Grand Vitara towards Girón, but due to the force of the blow, both were stranded in the opposite direction. One of the cars even crashed into the fence of a house and knocked over an iron door.
For his part, Jorge Guerrón, from the Cuenca Fire Department, confirmed that despite the collision, five occupants of both vehicles suffered several blows and although they were transferred to medical centers, they are stable.
Humberto Cajamarca lives three blocks from where the accident occurred. He commented that this is a common site for such mishaps. Although the signage warns that you cannot exceed 60 kilometers per hour and the double yellow line on the floor determines that you cannot pass other cars. According to this inhabitant, that is disrespected.
He also mentioned another frequent factor in accidents in that area. Every time it rains the road becomes slippery, which is why he recalled that four months ago a young driver died in a crash and four weeks later there was a triple crash.
This road is the main one that connects Azuay with El Oro, crossing the Girón and Santa Isabel cantons. (I)
