The numbers of those infected with COVID-19 in Azuay have increased in recent days, as has the number of patients in the Intensive Care Units (ICU) of the health homes.
In the past New Year holiday, the agglomeration of people was evident in different places in Cuenca. For example, this was especially evident in the payment points of the urban property.
According to the figures issued by the zonal coordinator 6 of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), Andrea Bersosa, in the last eight days 200 new infections were known that are isolated in their homes or in public and private medical centers in Azuay, Cañar and Morona Santiago. Only in the southern province are 89 of those infected.
Regarding the occupation of the hospitals, the official revealed that the use of COVID-19 beds in the José Carrasco Arteaga Social Security hospital reaches 100%, with 8 ICU patients and 8 in the clinic, while in the Vicente Corral Moscoso , administered by the MSP, there are three patients in the ICU and four in the clinical area.
This, he said, generates an alert, but not a panic, with the expectation “that there will not be an increase in cases that exceed its capacity.”
To support the detection of citizens infected by the virus, the Municipal Health Council launched a massive campaign to apply tests last weekend. Of the 696 that applied, 93 were positive, which are in most cases “asymptomatic vaccinated,” according to a statement issued from this entity.
On the morning of this Monday 3, one of the places that gathered a large number of citizens of different ages was the Municipal Treasury for the payment of the property with a 10% discount. The line was long outside.
A security guard allowed only those with the vaccination card to enter.
To avoid this scene and avoid contagion of the coronavirus, Pablo Pintado, director of the Department of Communication and Information Technologies (TICS) of the Municipality, recalled that payments can also be made online through the web portals cuenca.gob.ec and enlinea.cuenca.gob.ec.
Regarding the supply of medicines in hospitals, health centers and sub-centers, Bersosa indicated that they are currently at 60%, but it is seeking to reach 85% by the end of May 2022 with deliveries arranged from Quito. The medications that will be received are pain relievers, anti-inflammatories, and antibiotics.
The delegate urged citizens to participate in the immunization process and respect biosecurity measures. (I)
