The Belarusian security forces are trying to cover their tracks in the case of the death of a resident of Rechitsa, Gomel region, Dmitry Uskhopov, after his arrest. This was stated by the opposition politician Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, reports Telegram-channel NEXTA.
“This year began with the murder of a Belarusian by security forces. There is not and cannot be any political motive in this case, ”she said, calling the actions of the police officers yet another unjustified violence. According to Tikhanovskaya, state media lied that New Year’s Eve passed without incident.
The politician also noted that so far not a single Belarusian security official has been punished for his crimes and this behavior is now considered the norm.
The death of Uskhopov became known on January 2. A 28-year-old man was detained at a public transport stop when he was about to go to his mother to celebrate the New Year after a feast with friends. The relatives of the deceased believe that the security forces beat the detainee, and then took him to the waiting room of the local hospital, already in a state of clinical death.
