On holidays, alcohol consumption should be limited along with large amounts of fatty foods to avoid the development of acute pancreatitis. Oksana Mikhaleva, endocrinologist, dietitian “CM-Clinic”, told PRIME agency about this.
She advises planning ahead for New Year’s meals, especially salad dressing, and using low-fat sour cream or yogurt instead of mayonnaise.
“Olivier with sour cream is no worse than with mayonnaise, and the fat content is several times lower. Don’t make a lot of salads – 2-3 is enough. Eating a large number of different dishes on one New Year’s Eve is difficult for digestion and is a risk factor, ”the expert warned.
In particular, it is recommended to limit such dishes as salads, richly seasoned with mayonnaise and especially with sausage, such as Olivier. If you use chicken fillet instead of sausage, it will be much better. This also applies to herring under a fur coat, if a lot of mayonnaise was used in its preparation. Fried salads, that is, those to which fried mushrooms, fried meat or vegetables are added, are also high in fat. Drinking them with alcohol is quite dangerous, Mikhaleva said.
In addition, she notes, one should be wary of traditional sausage and, of course, fatty desserts at the end of the holiday (cakes with cream, for example). Such a load on the digestive organs may not pass without leaving a trace, the specialist is sure.
“The first symptoms of pancreatitis include: severe pain in the upper abdomen, which can radiate to the back, nausea, vomiting, severe weakness, dizziness, loss of consciousness, fever. When these symptoms appear, you need to urgently call an ambulance, ”concluded the endocrinologist.
