If you are lost in the forest in winter without the ability to reach people, you need to build a shelter from scrap materials and make a fire to protect yourself from the cold and predators. Survival specialist Mikhail Makei told Lente.ru about this.
According to him, in any, even a small trip, it is necessary to have an emergency supply of water, navigation and fire-making equipment with you.
“You have to understand that you need to prepare for any trip: out of town, on barbecue, hunting, fishing. You need aids to navigation, lighting a fire, warm clothing, and you also need to tell your family and friends where you are going and when you plan to return. These are the most basic points that must be observed, ”the expert emphasized.
He talked about two ways to survive in the wild: dynamic and static. With a static strategy, it is necessary to stay in place, if possible, if funds are available, make a fire. A bonfire will not only help keep warm, but it will also scare away wild predators and increase the likelihood of a person being found through smoke or light.
“In the dynamic version, you need to move towards people, go to the sounds, to the light, if you remember the road, then try to return by the same route. The second important point is that no one moves at night. Even in winter, when the snow is glistening and the visibility is much better, it is still not enough. To stay put, of course, you need shelter. It is necessary to rise from the ground, protecting yourself from snow, wind and the external environment. Of the materials at hand, spruce branches, of which there are many in our forests, are excellent. By the way, they are also suitable for making fires and keeping warm, ”Makei pointed out.
At the same time, in order not to get into a situation where none of the strategies will work, the survival specialist reminded of the need to always have an emergency supply with you, which will allow you to survive even in the event of a disaster. By the way, even a tucked leg can become a disaster.
“Even with a distance of two kilometers from the settlement in winter, a tucked leg can lead to very disastrous consequences – a person will not be able to move, get frostbite and die from the cold, not having lived a night. Therefore, I remind you once again about the need to have navigation aids, lighting a fire and also informing loved ones, ”the expert summed up.
