The father of Navalny’s comrade-in-arms, Ivan Zhdanov, was returned to the pre-trial detention center.
“Yuri Zhdanov, my father, was detained again today. They were charged with “violation of the recognizance not to leave the place and proper behavior”. They just closed me again in a pre-trial detention center. There will be no comments, ”wrote Ivan Zhdanov on Instagram.
The reason for the initiation of a criminal case was the fact that Yuri Zhdanov, when he was a member of the housing commission, recommended the head of the village to provide the woman with an apartment under a social tenancy agreement, and then it became known that this family had already received a housing subsidy.
By the end of the investigation, Yuri Zhdanov’s charges were significantly toughened: from part 1 of article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Excessive powers”) to part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud on an especially large scale”) and Art. 292 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Official forgery”). Now the elderly person faces up to 10 years in prison.
In relation to Ivan Zhdanov himself, a criminal case is being investigated under parts 1 and 2 of Art. 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (creation and management of an extremist community and participation in such a community). Alexei Navalny is considered the organizer, while other defendants in the case are Leonid Volkov, Ivan Zhdanov, Lyubov Sobol and “other persons” who are related to Navalny and FBK (the liquidated Anti-Corruption Fund, included by the Ministry of Justice in the register of organizations performing the functions of a foreign agent, and recognized as a banned extremist organization).
