The announcement was made this morning in Guayaquil.
Adrián Castro, director of the National Transit Agency (ANT), ratified the suspension of 302 routes and 1,632 frequencies of 64 transport operators that were granted in the pandemic period, from March 2020 to May 2021.
At the Guayaquil land terminal, the official spoke this morning at a press conference with the presence of leaders of interprovincial and intercantonal transportation.
He said that the ANT board’s report stated that there is no record of legal reports that support the relevance and requirements to grant increases in routes and frequencies, as determined by the Traffic Law and endorsed by the State Comptroller General’s Office.
ANT begins administrative process to suspend hundreds of routes and frequencies that were granted without technical support to cooperatives during the pandemic
In the analyzes, according to the ANT, it was determined that in a pandemic, routes were delivered that left at the same time from a starting point to the same destination in provinces such as Chimborazo or Tungurahua, Castro cited.
The ANT assured that the operation of routes is guaranteed and the passenger transport service will not be affected in those areas where buses did not arrive before the pandemic.
According to the ANT directory report, only in the previous six months there were 52 deaths on those routes and frequencies.
The authorities presume that the main cause of these accidents was the interference and competition of buses by passengers, which were generated due to an oversupply of intercantonal and interprovincial transport.

Castro said that this problem could be from previous administrations. For this, a national plan of routes and frequencies will be executed in order to analyze this situation and organize them, give more possibilities of transfer and improve the conditions for the provision of services. Until next March the initiative is expected to be ready.
“If there are 2018 or 2019 routes in this same situation, we will be able to correct it … There is how to reorganize it,” he said. (I)
