Ex-President of Moldova Igor Dodon was recognized as a suspect in the case of embezzlement of $ 12 million. This he himself after interrogation in the Prosecutor General’s Office, RIA Novosti reports.
“They showed me part of the case, they said that I was a suspect, not an accused,” Dodon said.
He no longer enjoys immunity and can be detained if the prosecutors deem it necessary.
Dodon did not come to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the republic on December 27 for interrogation, asking to postpone the hearings in the case until December 29.
The investigation believes that in 2008, the management of Energocom, which supplies Moldova with electricity, conspired with employees of the Ministry of Economy and others to implement a scheme for overstating the purchase prices for electricity and appropriating the difference. At this time, Dodon headed the Ministry of Economy of Moldova and was the country’s first deputy prime minister.
It should be noted that charges under the criminal code were also brought against another former leader, the ex-head of Kyrgyzstan Askar Akayev.
