In Russia, next year, a mechanism will be developed for transferring biometric data of citizens from banks to the Unified Biometric System (UBS), which will be administered by the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.
At the same time, banks and other commercial organizations themselves will not be able to keep copies of these data, the Vedomosti newspaper reports, citing the head of the Duma Committee on Information Policy, Alexander Khinshtein.
At the same time, a representative of the Ministry of Digital Industry clarified to the publication that the creation of a new EBS is not envisaged, but only technical and regulatory improvements to the existing subsystems are planned.
Currently, almost all leading Russian banks, including Sberbank, VTB, Alfa-Bank, collect customer biometrics with their consent through their systems.
Let us also recall that on December 22, the State Duma adopted in the third reading a law on the creation of a unified biometric system in Russia. In particular, individuals will be given the opportunity, if they have an account and using Russian software, to place their biometric personal data in the above system.
