Wealthy Russians are increasingly interested in buying overseas real estate in order to obtain a residence permit (residence permit) or citizenship. According to “Lenta.ru”, this is evidenced by the data of the agency Skolkovo Realty.
According to the materials, in November 2021, the demand for real estate “for a passport” outside Russia increased by 15% compared to October.
At the end of 11 months of 2021 (from January to November), the number of requests for the purchase of housing outside the Russian Federation in order to obtain a residence permit or citizenship increased by 12% (compared to the same period in 2020) and by 20% relative to the indicator of 2019.
Experts believe that the segment of investment citizenship will only grow. In the new year, they expect a growth in demand for foreign passports by one and a half times.
It is noted that countries such as Saint Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, Turkey, Montenegro and Portugal turned out to be the most demanded among Russians wishing to obtain another citizenship or residence permit. The citizenship of the latter, by the way, was recently received by the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.
Media sources reported that the Russian took advantage of the Portuguese “Law of Return”, which allows the descendants of Sephardic Jews (immigrants from Spain and Portugal) and Converso Jews (those who were forcibly converted to Christianity) to obtain Portuguese citizenship. The Portuguese Ministry of Justice also confirmed the media information.
We add that the businessman is also a citizen of Russia and, presumably, Israel.
