Russia stands up for an international agreement on the Internet, but with the preservation of “sovereign right”

Moscow considers it necessary to conclude an agreement on the international regulation of Internet governance. Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Oleg Syromolotov stated this in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to him, “Russia stands for the internationalization of Internet management and the equal participation of states in this process.”

At the same time, the Deputy Foreign Minister pointed out, Moscow stands up for “preserving the sovereign right of states to regulate the national segment of the Internet.”

Let us also remind that on December 23, during a large press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that it is necessary to create useful content on the Internet so that young people “do not get sick” with the Network and do not substitute virtual life for real life. The head of state admitted that the Internet has become a part of people’s lives, but everything that happens there must obey human rules, so you need to adhere to the “golden mean” in regulating the Internet – not suppress freedom, but protect society from negativity.

Earlier, Roskomnadzor (RKN) promised “not to gesture,” but to try to negotiate with foreign Internet companies that will not have time to fulfill the requirements of the law on “landing” them in Russia by January 1, 2022.
