Pediatrician and TV presenter Yevgeny Komarovsky answered the question of how to deal with mental problems arising from lockdowns. On the air of the heading “Ask Komarovsky” on the channel “Ukraine”, the release of which is available on YouTube, he named a good reason to contact a psychiatrist.
Komarovsky noted that mental health problems due to coronavirus can arise for two reasons. The first he called the postponed COVID-19. According to the specialist, it has been proven that coronavirus infection, especially moderate and severe, causes problems with the nervous system and often mental problems in at least one third of patients. In particular, those who have recovered may suffer from depression and panic disorder.
Another factor that negatively affects the human psyche during a pandemic, Komarovsky called changes in the usual way of life. “We have all gone through a situation where the way of life we are used to has changed in the most decisive way. We have lost the ability to communicate with loved ones. We have lost the ability to travel normally, and the information field is filled with a huge number of horror stories, and we have no idea what will happen next, ”said the doctor.
The host also noted that every person has bad days. “If you have more bad days than good days in your life, please do not try to fix the problem yourself. We often need the help of a professional, a psychiatrist, ”Komarovsky said to the audience.
In addition, the specialist voiced ways to prevent mental problems. Among them, he ranked communication with good people, walking in the fresh air, playing sports, watching a movie, listening to music. “The main thing is to avoid loneliness,” Komarovsky warned the audience.
