All forms of theft increased compared to 2020.
Two men on motorcycles stand next to a small car while dozens of vehicles wait for the traffic light to change on the busy road to Daule, near Parque California. In a video, recorded from another vehicle, it seemed to be registered what would be another robbery in Guayaquil. But this was frustrated by policemen on foot who came from a corner and surprised one of the rogues red-handed, when he had put half his body in the car of his victims.
The video went viral and the Police have received dozens of congratulations from citizens who are tired of the crime wave that Guayaquil is enduring. In the image, however, it is seen that the driver of the motorcycle escapes without problem in front of a uniformed man, since he was not seen by him when, moments before, he had struggled to open the door of the car they were trying to assault in broad light of the day, in the middle of the traffic that these days the most commercial sites of the city support.
“Immediate response from our police officers allowed the apprehension of one of those involved in an attempted assault, in the Parque California sector,” confirmed the Police in their social media accounts.
In the video it is observed that the police, alerted to the assault that was taking place, advance on foot in the middle of the vehicles that were honking their horns and aimed at the assailant who had put half his body in the car. The antisocial turned around with his hands up, was handcuffed and brought to justice.
“Too bad they didn’t hear people shouting ‘the one on the motorcycle, the one on the motorcycle!” and one has escaped them, but they did a good job catching the one who was stealing, “said a citizen.
A few days after the end of this year, all forms of robbery increased in Ecuador compared to 2020. Guayas, Pichincha and Los RĂos lead the complaints, according to a report from the Prosecutor’s Office that indicates, among the most committed crimes, robbery of people, vehicles and homes.
Between January and October of last year there were more than 16,000 complaints, and in the same period this year more than 20,000 have been reported, that is, an increase of 25.6%. The worrying thing is the modality, since eight out of ten robberies to people are violent assaults. (I)
