The Government will not renew the Exception status for the jails of the country that concludes this Tuesday, December 28.
On the morning of this Monday, December 27, 2021, the Vice Minister of the Interior, Max Campos, confirmed that there will be no renewal of the state of emergency, and that the National Police and the Armed forces They will be kept in prisons according to their powers.
“This moment, at the end of the state of exception, and after the meeting that was held in the Security Cabinet, the Armed Forces and the National Police will continue, without the need for a state of exception, supporting the National Service for Comprehensive Attention to Persons Deprived of Liberty and Teen Offenders (SNAI), ”Campos said on radio Sonorama.
In accordance with current regulations, the only uniformed security agents who can be inside prisons are prison guides.
Police and military remain outside the centers and intervene, in that order, if there is mutiny or acts of violence.

After the last massacre in the Litoral Penitentiary, which left 62 prisoners murdered, President Guillermo Lasso indicated that he will renew the states of exception as many times as necessary.
