The pilot regions for the introduction of a digital passport will be the Moscow region, Moscow and Tatarstan, said Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to Chernyshenko, the digital passport project is already ready, technical tests of basic electronic components – microcircuits and blanks – have also been carried out. It is planned to start issuing such documents from the beginning of 2023, first in pilot regions that are technologically ready to use such documents. However, in general, such a passport can be used anywhere in Russia, the Deputy Prime Minister added.
Chernyshenko also noted that replacing a paper document with a smart card will remain the choice of every citizen, but expressed confidence that “the choice of the majority will be obvious in favor of an electronic medium.”
We will remind, earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation is ready to issue electronic passports from January 2023. The document will be a plastic card with an electronic data carrier. It was reported that it will have a photograph, personal data and a chip. Moreover, it will also contain biometric data.
