The La Segua wetland is among the 30 most attractive places in the country, where the Christmas bird count will take place from this Saturday, an activity that will be carried out in parallel throughout the American continent, said Yimi Giler, head of the Municipality’s Tourism area.

This initiative consists of registering the bird species of a place, for 24 hours, in an imaginary area of 25 kilometers. National, foreign, professional and amateur bird watchers will participate.

360 bird species are identified in the Yasuní Biosphere Reserve

For the first time, the count will have the endorsement of Audubon, an American non-profit organization dedicated to nature conservation, which considered La Segua in this count due to the variety of environments and habitats it presents.

In this “jewel” of the Chonense territory you can see 158 species, of which 22 are migratory, some very rare in the country, such as the gray plover (Pluvialis squatarola), earwig sabanera (tyrant savana) and blue-winged teal (Spatula discors).

This count will take place on December 25, 26 and 27. In Manabí only two places have been considered: La Segua and Machalilla. (I)
