Almost 60% of Ukrainian citizens who participated in a survey by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) believe that their country should join NATO. About 40% of those polled are sure that accepting the demands of Russian President Vladimir Putin not to admit Ukraine to NATO will harm the security of Ukraine, while about 30% hold the opposite opinion.
The results of the poll, conducted on December 13-16, are cited by “Interfax-Ukraine”.
The votes of citizens who believe in the hypothetical winter invasion of Russia and those who do not believe in it were divided approximately in half and amounted to 49.2% and 41.4%, respectively.
Most of the supporters of European integration were found in the center and west of Ukraine, while the majority of “Eurosceptics” live in the south and east of the country.
The survey was conducted by telephone interviews using a computer in all territories of Ukraine controlled by Kiev; more than 1,200 people took part in it.
