On December 25, the Masterskaya Theater will host the premiere of the play staged by Maxim Studenovsky and Vladimir Karpov based on the fairy tale by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann The Nutcracker.
In the production of “The Workshop”, the forefront is the master Drosselmeyer – the godfather of Marie and Franz, a skillful maker of moving dolls and the uncle of an enchanted young man turned into an ugly toy. It is he who is the narrator of the Christmas tale, and it is he who connects the fates of Marie Stahlbaum and his nephew, giving the girl a ridiculous doll and telling her a sad tale about the magic nut Krakatuk and the evil queen Myshilda.
Drosselmeyer tells his tale at the piano, to music, acting either as a pianist of the story unfolding on the stage, or as its sole author and presenter, being simultaneously in two worlds. Likewise, his favorite Marie passes from one world to another, at first attracted by the magic of the godfather’s words and music, and then gaining her own power, allowing her to revive and take away dolls, soldiers and horses and discern the true essence of house rats – the embodiment of fabulous evil – and the wooden man – the embodiment of fabulous nobility and courage.
Seemingly simple and artless, the Nutcracker tale takes on the essence and meaning of a parable – especially when told to children. In it, the real world and the world of fantasy and dreams are intertwined, the world is cold and harsh – and the world is poetic and harmonious.
“In the play by Maxim Studenovsky and Vladimir Karpov, the child’s world is not divided into black and white, but into prose and poetry, deafness and music, boredom and fantasy. Any space can become fabulous, any world can become magical, any creature can acquire new features if a small person opens his eyes, soul and heart to see and feel more than it seems, ”explain the directors of the cult fairy tale. – The playful element of the performance draws young spectators into the world of the Stahlbaum house and Drosselmeyer’s fairy tales. Marie and Franz play with them as equals, they sit on pillows right on the floor of the Stahlbaum nursery, they, together with the young Stahlbaums, listen to the tale of the master Drosselmeyer, they bravely fight the army of the Mouse King, led by Franz and the Nutcracker, and celebrate together with the characters the victory over the rats and the meeting of Marie with the disenchanted young Drosselmeyer. The theater opens up to young viewers from the inside, inviting them to create magic together. ”
The performance includes Maxim Studenovsky, Maria Didik, Daria Solovieva, Foma Byzgu, Ivan Grigoriev, Andrei Didik, Mikhail Kasapov, Dmitry Mikov and many others.
The duration of the performance is 1 hour 15 minutes.
