Product Named to Reduce Risk of Dementia

Doctor and TV presenter Sergei Agapkin believes that eating mackerel will help reduce the risk of developing dementia. He stated this on the air of the program “On the most important” on the channel “Russia 1”.

According to the specialist, this fish is rich in vitamin B12, the deficiency of which in the body increases the risk of developing the disease by almost 40%, reports Lenta.ru.

As Agapkin specified, mackerel is one of the main sources of vitamin B12 – pink salmon, for example, contains almost four times less of this vitamin.

Let us recall that dementia is an acquired dementia, a persistent decrease in cognitive activity with a loss, to one degree or another, of previously acquired knowledge and practical skills. Most often, this condition is observed in old age.

Previously, scientists in the course of research “calculated” one personal hygiene feature that can increase the risk of dementia by 65%.

So, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, not brushing your teeth daily can seriously increase your chances of developing dementia. The study lasted for 18 years. It turned out that people who did not brush their teeth daily have a 22-66% higher risk of dementia than those who brush their teeth three times a day.
