The European Commission launched a legal procedure against Poland due to the violation of the laws of the European Union by the Constitutional Court of this country. Now Warsaw has to give an official answer within two months.
According to DW, the European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders indicated that the EU “tried to establish a dialogue with Poland, but there is no progress.”
“The foundations of the EU legal system must be respected, including the rule of European law,” he wrote in his Twitter.
Brussels doubted that the Polish Constitutional Court displayed independence and impartiality, recognizing the supremacy of the national constitution over European law.
Earlier, Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Zebro suggested that the country’s authorities, in the event of an aggravation of the conflict with the EU, stop payments to the European budget and veto its decisions. In his opinion, the union is blackmailing Poland and is trying to create a “federal state that nominally governs Brussels, but in fact – Berlin.”
