The internal struggles of Pachakutik overflowed with the processing of the urgent project on Economic Development and Fiscal Sustainability and the vote on the report of the investigation carried out by the Constitutional Guarantees Commission regarding the so-called Pandora Papers, in whose conclusions the dismissal of the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso; but not everyone in this political shop was convinced to support this.
Those issues broke the bloc into two camps. One made up of nine legislators who are related to the president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie), Leonidas Iza, and who are led within the Legislative by Mario Ruiz, Salvador Quishpe, Darwin Pereira and Mireya Pazmiño, who called themselves “ rebels “.

The spokesmen of both sectors agree on one thing: that these internal disputes in Pachakutik will not affect the agreements between the two political forces, which have been in place since last May.

That the meeting was quite good and healthy, that he was recommended to comply with the work plan and that he must be aware of the territory, working and reporting, showing that the thesis can be defended that, if there are bills for the benefit of Ecuadorians, there will be support; but that it is not complicit in privatizing and neoliberal laws that come from the Government.
Assemblyman Darwin Pereira, who is also the movement’s general secretary, revealed that initially it is planned that the Pachakutik bloc will meet next January 8 in a national executive committee that must be convened by Marlon Santi.
Pereira, who is part of the group of rebel legislators who do not support Rafael Lucero’s coordination, said that they are demanding that Marlon Santi convene the executive committee to solve this problem of the bloc and of the committee regarding the line that the bench of Pachakutik in front of the Government from the National Assembly.
He indicated that the division continues, because so far no one has put order in the bench for key votes: “They have left us to the good of God, because in the last sessions of the plenary session we entered without a previous meeting and a clear position; and, apparently, that was the purpose, to let us loose so that many comrades begin to vote with the Government in an underhanded way ”.
The agreement with the Democratic Left is not in jeopardy, said Pereira. What is missing is that Pachakutik has a clear definition regarding the processing of the Executive’s laws.
Ricardo Vanegas, national legislator, also revealed that the national coordinator of Pachakutik will summon the assembly members of the bench to a meeting in which several points will be analyzed, which must be agreed upon.
