People over 60 years of age already receive booster doses against COVID-19 after five months of second injection

The process began this Wednesday once the government authorities authorized it to be five months from the placement of the second dose.

The application of booster dose for the people over 60 years began this Wednesday, December 22, after the announcement made by government authorities that it was shortened from six months to five months its administration.

From October it is applied in Ecuador booster dose to health personnel and to older adults (65 years or older). Those who have immunosuppressive conditions have also been included.

The Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, He had said that they were going to put the booster doses to the general population as of January 1, 2022; however, due to the presence of the omicron variant, they were going to do so from December 1. The condition was six months after your second dose.

According to Meza, even though in the province of Pichincha and in the city of Quito Vaccination levels exceeding 90% have been achieved, in the age groups of 5 to 11 years, 12 to 17 years and 18 to 49 years, there are people who are still pending completion of the two-dose schedule.
