The State Duma expands the grounds for blocking Internet sites

The State Duma adopted in the second reading a bill expanding the list of publications on the Internet subject to extrajudicial blocking, a Rosbalt correspondent reports.

According to the document, Roskomnadzor will be able, at the request of the prosecutor’s office, to block on the Internet “information containing justification and (or) justification for the implementation of extremist activities, including terrorist activities.” It is also allowed to block websites with information materials of organizations whose activities were prohibited in accordance with the laws on countering terrorism and extremism.

An out-of-court blocking procedure means that information will be deleted immediately, bypassing legal proceedings.

When finalizing the draft law for the second reading, the deputies allowed to block sites with false reports of acts of terrorism, as well as those publishing proposals to purchase a “fake document that grants rights or relieves you of obligations.” Thus, sites with offers to sell vaccination certificates or QR codes, for example, will be blocked.
